Being part of Robin had been a great learning experience as it was the first time I got to work on a project outside the School of Design. Overview

After creating the poster, booklet, and mobile experience, I will be creating a 1-minute video about Massimo Vignelli. Considering time, motion, and sound, I hope to create an engaging animation that gives a quick insight into who Massimo Vignelli was. Using Massimo’s voice as the “spine” of my video, I hope to capture the essence of his life and philosophy and intrigue viewers so that they want to learn more about him.

Through the use of text, images, and typography, I hope to tell a story that is both captivating and inspiring. The main question to consider throughout this project is: How do I make a publication that both delights and resonates with my audience––people who know nothing about Massimo––while also informing and educating them?

In the first round of speed-dating, I talked to Joseph who presented the method of Simulation. Designers use simulation as a tool to really understand their target group’s experience and gain empathy. Through simulation, designers recreate their users’ environmental conditions, putting themselves in their users’ shoes. Bulls-Eye Diagramming is a research tool used to help prioritize data during either the exploration stage or the concept generation/early prototyping stage in a design process. Communications Studio I Project 4: Time & Motion

Project Overview

This project is a continuation of Project 3 as I will still be focusing on the typeface Caslon. However, unlike the previous project, the medium is motion graphics. The final outcome is a 1-minute typeface introduction video. Although the same principles (Unity/Harmony, Balance, Hierarchy, Scale/Proportion, Dominance/Emphasis, and Similarity/Contrast) still apply, I will now have to take into account sequence, motion, and sound. From this project, I hope to develop the ability to make sensible design decisions regarding motion graphics and create a communicative video that is also captivating and beautiful, along with honing my After Effects skills.
